Wild Watch Archive
Waters’ Edge Country Park, located next to the Humber Bridge is a newly created wildlife park and visitor centre. Located around the park are a number of hidden surveillance cameras, the live feed from which can be viewed in the visitor centre. The centre is home to Wild Watch Archive, a touchscreen based interactive that offers visitors a chance to search through a collection of digital videos and photographs taken around the park. Visitors can search by species, habitat, activity, season and year, or alphabetically. Each piece of media is accompanied by just the right amount of information, enough to engage visitors, but not so much that people are overwhelmed. High resolution photographs can be magnified and panned around, and videos can be paused, fast forwarded and viewed full screen. The database, photographs and videos are stored on a central server, which the two networked kiosks have access to. We provided the client with a number of custom written utilities to allow them to easily update the database remotely so they could add, delete and amend records, photographs and video.

Thomas Chippendale at Harewood House
Harewood House in West Yorkshire, home to the Queen’s cousin, is also home to a collection of Chippendale furniture. Continuum has produced many interactives for the House, and one of the finest has to be the Thomas Chippendale collection. Showcasing almost 100 pieces of Chippendale furniture, this unique interactive is organised into categories and allows visitors to view detailed photographs of the furniture from multiple angles. Supported by descriptive text and images of the original bill of sale where available, the location of each item within the House is shown on a map. The interactive provides the client with a way to display information about the furniture in the house, without having to put a panel or display next to each piece. The interactive also boasts an introduction to the House, a panoramic tour of some of the rooms, and two talking head interviews.
