September 2006 | Burnby Hall & Gardens

Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum is home to the National Collection of Hardy Water Lilies and the Stewart Collection. It has been in the care of the Stewart’s Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum Trust since its former owner, Major Percy Stewart, left the estate to the people of Pocklington following his death in 1962.

The Stewart Museum is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, East Riding of Yorkshire and Leader+ and funding is now in place to allow the Museum to be completely refurbished.

Continuum has been appointed to develop an Interpretation Plan, detailed designs and specifications for all components, build services for exhibition and project management from concept to a mid-2007 completion date.

Drawing on our many years' experience in social history interpretation, we will:

- tell the story of the life and times of Major Stewart
- promote connections between Pocklington and the wider world
- develop formal / informal learning resources for all
- provide a new state-of-the-art museum.
