November 2007 | Rich heritage and social history to be told |
|
| Newbiggin by Sea has a rich heritage and social history; its beaches have been the playground of the Northumberland miner and the Newcastle shipbuilder and their families, its sea shore the home of small fishing boats that braved the North Sea and a lifeboat service which has tested the courage of generations of villagers. Over recent years Newbiggin has embarked upon a development programme to enhance its role as a regional tourist centre focusing on its heritage past and creative future. The planned Newbiggin Maritime Centre will become a "landmark" Centre aiming to continue the regeneration of Newbiggin providing economic, social and educational and community benefits in the development of a new image for Newbiggin. Continuum has been commissioned to inform the design, capital costing and business planning of the educational and exhibition component of the Newbiggin Maritime Centre. We will provide outline concept designs, concept designs for the AV and other digital displays to illustrate the Centre's themes as well as illustrating how both the design and AV elements might be interactive and involving for the visitor. Importantly, working with the architectural team we will ensure sufficient space is provided for an engaging visitor attraction developing the themes of sea safety and the history of the lifeboat, the fishing background of Newbiggin and the village's various roles as a seaside resort. ![]()
