July 2008 | The Ropery exhibition opens

We have completed the refurbishment of the interpretation for The Ropery at Chatham Historic Dockyards. A new themed gallery and costumed guided tour now brings alive the life of a ropemaker in Victorian times.

The main principal of our design was to create a number of designated zones to allow the guides to deliver key messages and stories via graphics, props, AV elements and guide led hands-on activities.

We adopted a bold approach for the graphics with large scale images and text, which in some cases runs across several panels.

The Ropery at the Historic Dockyard with its 1/4 mile long Double Ropehouse is truly unique and is now the only working traditional ropewalk from the Age of Sail to survive anywhere in the world.
