| Name that face in one! Having just revealed its own name, York’s new chocolate themed visitor attraction is on the hunt to find out the names of the people in some of the old photographs being used to help bring York’s confectionery history to life. The windows of Chocolate – York’s Sweet Story, in King’s Square, have been turned into a giant poster site displaying photographs of former factory workers, in the hope that the people of York will be able to help identify the forgotten faces of the men and women employed by the city’s confectionery dynasties during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. ![]() “We’re asking the people of York to look at the photographs and see if they recognise anyone – and, if they do, to tell us their stories and who they are so we can include them in Chocolate – York's Sweet Story,” said Ann Gurnell, general manager of the Continuum Group, the York company opening the attraction. “Our new attraction will feature the lives of the people and, indeed, generations of families who lived and breathed sweets and chocolates in York, not only at work but in their social, sports and home lives too. So whether people spot their ‘Aunty Vera’ who worked in cream fillings, their grandfather who made Polos or Uncle Mick in Gums and Smartie packing we would love to hear all about them.” If you can help name the chocolate workers at Chocolate – York’s Sweet Story or have any stories to share about working at Rowntree’s, Nestle, Terrys or Cravens, please visit www.yorkssweetstory.com or send your story to Louise McKenzie at Chocolate – York’s Sweet Story, St Edmund’s House, Margaret Street, York, YO10 4UX. Chocolate – York’s Sweet Story opens in King’s Square in early spring 2012. For more information please visit www.yorkssweetstory.com or call 0845 4989411. |
