January 2008 | Revamp to breathe water of life back into whisky centre |

| The Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh has appointed Continuum to help it deliver planned improvements to the visitor experience in order to make it become a truly world class visitor attraction. The revamp, which follows an expected fall in visitor numbers, will include a new £1m 'tilting car' ride demonstrating how Scotland's national drink is made. There are also plans to showcase the world's biggest whisky collection in a new vault-style room. Diageo, which has its Scottish headquarters at Edinburgh Park, has been locked in talks for months over a new site for the collection but it is understood that it sees the Royal Mile attraction as a prime choice. Alastair McIntosh, managing director of The Scotch Whisky Experience said “we are planning some major investment this year, but we are currently still at the drawing board so we won't be making any announcements at this stage”. "Since I set the centre up in 1988, The Scotch Whisky Experience has become one of Scotland's major five-star visitor attractions with nearly quarter of a million visitors every year. "We have continuously upgraded over the years but I can confirm that we are planning a major £2m upgrade to provide a truly world-class experience." The renovations would see a massive expansion for the current car ride, more interactive exhibits, an expanded tour commentary in 15 different languages, and a separate child-friendly commentary. Building renovations would also make more of the spectacular views from the first floor across Edinburgh's Southside. The facility would also include a traditional whisky bar and a contemporary whisky cocktail bar. ![]() |
