January 2006 | Continuum goes aquatic! |
|
| The Continuum Group, leading designer, multimedia producer and operator of tourism projects, is the brains behind an array of stunning displays for two of the UK’s top aquatic attractions – The Deep in Hull and the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. Continuum’s design team is currently producing an innovative exhibition for the brand new ExplorOcean visitor attraction at the National Marine Aquarium. The ‘Power and Exploration’ exhibition will feature three large interactive tanks to show visitors the sustainable energy sources the ocean has to offer. Three fun, hands-on tanks demonstrate how energy could be produced from current/offshore wind power, tidal power and hydro power – using turbines to power lights. ExplorOcean is due to open in the early part of 2006. Multimedia and design experts at Continuum have also worked on three projects for The Deep – the world’s only submarium. Continuum recently completed a brand new exhibition for the under fives – Hullabaloo! The fun interactive exhibition explores the unique characteristics of the Humber estuary, introducing young children to birds and animals. It features three characters – a water vole, fresh water shrimp and oyster catcher – and their habitats, offering a range of fun activities including a crawl-through area, ramps, soft play area, footprints to guess, ‘feely’ boxes and binoculars to use. The area is completed with theatrical lighting. Continuum’s multimedia team recently produced a new introductory sequence for The Deep exhibition itself. This features wildlife footage introducing the exhibits within the attraction, with a voice-over by Patrick Stewart. Thirdly, the group is just putting the finishing touches to a new three-screen AV show for Deep Blue One – which tells the story of the ‘Killers of the Deep’, such as giant squids, great white sharks, stonefish and cone snails, set in a futuristic deep sea submarine base. The film includes a cutting edge CGI display combined with live action of wildlife and cinematic effects. The new ‘Killers of the Deep’ show is due to open in early 2006. |
