April 2006 | Experts from York to the Falklands Islands

The Continuum Group in York – specialists in the tourism and leisure industry – has just carried out a fascinating assignment to the Falkland Islands, some 8,000 miles away.

Tony Docherty who heads up the tourism consultancy division at the Continuum Group, travelled to the Falklands to carry out a Tourism study on behalf of the Falkland Islands Development Corporation. For the study, he examined and researched the tourism market, infrastructure, facilities, visitors and services within the Islands and proposed improvements to the tourism offer. The Falklands currently receives around 50,000 visitors per year via cruise ships that stop off at the Islands during the summer months, making tourism a major economic driver to the country.

Not a stranger to overseas work, Tony has so far this year travelled to South America, China, Estonia, and Turkey advising governments on the potential for tourism development or how to improve their current tourism offering. Closer to home, Tony and the consultancy team at Continuum are also working on a number of UK projects including a new state of the art visitor information centre for York, an exhibition home for Concorde at Manchester Airport, as well as new attractions and museums for London, Ipswich and Edinburgh.

The Continuum Group is a leading designer and operator of visitor attractions and is behind a number of award winning museums and visitor attractions including the Jorvik Viking Centre, Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower and The Real Mary King’s Close in Edinburgh.
