April 2005 | The Twilight Zone

We have just completed an innovative suite of state-of-the-art media for the new Twilight Zone at The Deep – the UK’s only Submarium. The Twilight Zone is the name given to the cold, dark depths that extend between 200 and 1000 metres below the ocean’s surface.

Our multimedia interprets the weird and wonderful creatures that live at such depths and the extreme environment in which they fight for survival. The spectacular introduction to the new gallery is our ‘Experience Theatre’, a multi-screen AV show narrated by Patrick Stewart.

The rarely seen and once assumed extinct coelacanth is brought to life through a life-sized computer animated model, which can be seen ‘swimming’ alongside living specimens.
The deadly consequences of marine pollution are explored with ‘Dirty Dan’ and an animated atolla jellyfish shows off its bioluminescent warning lights if you approach too close.
